Double IPA: EARNED!!!

Greetings!

We are happily blogging from Lost Coast Brewery in Eureka, California! Poncha and I are REALLY enjoying a well deserved, cold, refreshing, double IPA. Why is this amazing beer so well deserved?

On July 5th we started from Crescent City, CA where we enjoyed an incredible firework show on the 4th of July (they really did it up right) and rode to Elk Prairie Campground. It was around 40 miles to our camp site. The ride started out meeting some new friends:

We then rode up, up and away. Our first climb was the Cresent Hill triple peek (yes, three separate peeks!) reaching 1022 feet in elevation! Towards the top of this climb we were riding through the redwoods with the clouds blowing by! It was stunning!

While I was feeling a bit like Woman Wonder on this ride (meaning: I'm healed!) I contemplated another form of transportation:

I quickly decided the Golden Bear was much too slow for my style and Poncha and I rode on. BB Baker and Bluga climbed another 900 feet before we descended six glorious (and I do mean GLORIOUS) miles through breathtaking redwoods to Elk Prarie camperground. We thought we were arriving to solitude and possible wild elk sightings (sadly no elk, which was something I was eager to experience since I've never seen wild elk) but instead we were met with 14 gregarious teenagers, lacking camp ediquite, in the biker/hiker camp site.

Fortunately today, as we biked out of camp towards Eureka, here is what blessed us:

Wild Elk!

As we rode a bit further this lovely elk awaited our arrival, seeing her from the road as we cycled past.

Our ride led us past the Big Lagoon:

After 48.50 miles and setting up tent at the only spot in town, or a bit out of town town (Eureka KOA), we splurged and took a taxi to Lost Coast Brewery!

Cheers!
